{"id":10122,"date":"2016-08-10T11:27:38","date_gmt":"2016-08-10T10:27:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bulk.com\/uk\/the-core\/?p=10122"},"modified":"2023-05-11T10:27:52","modified_gmt":"2023-05-11T09:27:52","slug":"top-3-most-common-mistakes-seen-in-the-gym-gabriel-sey","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bulk.com\/uk\/the-core\/top-3-most-common-mistakes-seen-in-the-gym-gabriel-sey\/","title":{"rendered":"Gabriel Sey &#8211; What not to do in the gym"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We caught up with our athlete, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bulk.com\/uk\/gabriel-sey\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Gabriel Sey<\/a>, to ask him about the most <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bulk.com\/uk\/the-core\/common-gym-mistakes\/\">common gym mistakes to avoid<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This is what he had to say:<\/p>\n<h3>Mistake # 1<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Lack of focus &amp; control when lifting weight.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A lot of people let their ego get the best of them and form goes out the window. Knowing what muscles you need to recruit for a certain movement is key! In your first few years of lifting (in fact your whole time lifting) you need to be focusing on that mind-muscle connection and getting things done right!<\/p>\n<h3>Mistake # 2<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Trying to cheat yourself &amp; then trying to justify it.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re meant to be doing 45 minutes cardio and you do 40, you&#8217;re taking shortcuts&#8230;you continue to cheat yourself, and cheat yourself, and cheat yourself and it builds up&#8230;it&#8217;s a bad habit to get into. <strong>Don&#8217;t do it!<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3>Mistake # 3<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Not timing your rest periods.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On a basic level, your rest period should not be 5-10 minutes! Set a realistic rest period &#8211; aim for between 1 minute &#8211; 1m 30 seconds. When you get into the gym environment, rid yourself of distractions and maintain consistency between sets and exercises.
