Catch me outside

We get it. It’s summer, it’s hot, and you want to be outside enjoying the sun. You also want to get in your gym sessions.

With the right plan, you can get the same workout outdoors.

We’re all close to green areas and you probably know a few nearby workout spaces — there’s never been a better time to train outside. So get out there — here’s a routine to get you started.

10 X PUSH UPS

Begin in a high plank, hands beneath your shoulders, body in a straight line from head to heels. Lower your chest to the ground with control, elbows close to your sides. Press back up explosively, keeping hips steady and your core tight.

5 X PULL UPS

Grab a pull-up bar with your palms facing away from you. Hang freely with straight arms, feet off the floor. Engage your lats and pull your chin above the bar, keeping your legs tight and your core braced. Lower under control to a full dead hang. Use strict form or kipping variations if needed, but never compromise shoulder control.

15 X TRICEP DIPS

Find parallel bars or a sturdy bench. For bench dips, place your hands shoulder-width behind you, legs extended forward. Lower your body by bending your elbows until they reach a 90° angle. Keep your back close to the bench and drive through until your palms return to the top. Avoid shrugging your shoulders — each rep should be smooth, steady, and full range.

JUST GET OUT THERE

Ultimately, your local gym is always going to be there, and you can go for a workout whenever you want. But the sun-filled days of summer? They’re limited. So get your water bottle ready, get your trainers on, and go make the most of it.
